We used to send two first aiders to our local school fetes or community events, through this we attracted new volunteers and let our area know what we did and who we were. Charges went up and BRC have lost us these duties, now all that seems to be left are the larger duties such as Tough Mudders, Chester Races etc. I have recently been on a large out of area duty and people have shown an interest and I have had to signpost them to website as I didn't know what groups were in the area I was (so many are closing down to). I can guarantee that those people never looked. If that was a smaller local duty we could have given them local numbers, told them about our group and probably got new volunteers out of it. I am from Cheshire and been a volunteer for over 30 years now and seen a massive change in the duties we do.
