Be more local!

We need to promote what we do in the local community a lot more, which in turn will attract more volunteers. This can be done by having stalls at community events such as summer fairs, community centres, etc. I think it is crucial to have press and social media more localised, in the area I work Plymouth it would be great to have social media channel’s just for Plymouth and tell the Plymouth success stories and promote the local teams. Many of the local smaller charities in our area have better volunteer recruit rates as they have in-bedded themselves in the community. I worked on a Corporate Social Responsibility Project, part of my role was speaking at Business breakfast/lunches to create interest in Employee volunteering. I think it would be great if volunteer coordinators did this, it could also tie in with fundraising.
